Knuckles Mountain Range

Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka’s colonial hill station, complete with a Victorian post office, formal gardens and a noticeably cooler climate that feels like a different country entirely. Tea estates surround the town on every side, making it a natural base for factory visits and tastings.
Horton Plains
Horton Plains is a highland plateau at 2,100 metres that ends abruptly at World’s End, a sheer escarpment with views over the plains hundreds of metres below on a clear morning. The mandatory early start, well before the cloud rolls in, is part of the experience rather than an inconvenience.
Haputale
Haputale sits on a ridge with views stretching across the southern plains on a clear day, quieter and less developed than Ella or Nuwara Eliya despite equally dramatic scenery. It suits travellers who want tea country without the crowds.
Ella
Ella is the highland town most travellers arrive in and find genuinely difficult to leave, with the Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak and a relaxed independent cafe culture all within easy walking distance of each other. Its combination of scenery and accessibility makes it a fixture on almost every highland itinerary.
