Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site that still functions as a living town, with Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial layers all readable in a single guided walk. The lighthouse, the 1755 Dutch Reformed Church and the rampart walk above the Indian Ocean form the core of the visit, with time built in for the fort’s boutique lanes, galleries and cafes. The southern coastal drive either side of the fort adds fishing villages and coastal scenery to round out the day. Golden hour on the ramparts is consistently the highlight guests remember longest.
