Sri Lanka offers genuinely good surf for both complete beginners and experienced riders, with Weligama’s long, forgiving right-hander ideal for first-timers and Arugam Bay’s point break rewarding more experienced surfers. Certified local instructors and board hire are available at every major break, with lessons typically running two to three hours. The seasonal split between the south and east coasts means good surf is available somewhere on the island across most of the year. Hiriketiya and Ahangama offer quieter, less crowded alternatives to the more established breaks.
